Police in East Lothian are appealing for witnesses following a suspicious fire in a close in Dunbar.

The incident happened around 2.45am on Wednesday in West Port when a wheelie bin was set on fire in a common stair. Officers are considering whether this incident is linked to other deliberate fires around the same time in East Lothian. A charity clothing bin was set on fire at the swimming pool in Dunbar and bales of hay were set alight at East Linton.

Officers are urging anyone who can help them with their inquiries to please get in touch. Detective Inspector Stevie Bertram said: “Luckily no-one was hurt in these incidents but deliberate fire-raising is an extremely dangerous crime and one we take very seriously. Anyone who can assist us to trace those responsible is asked to contact us on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
