A driver killed in a collision on the A697 south of Wooler on Friday has been named.

Muriel Bartle, 62, from Seaton Sluice, was driving northbound when the head-on collision happened near Surrey House.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, a 25-year-old woman, was taken to Wansbeck General Hospital for treatment. She has since been released.

It happened around 9.45am. Emergency services attended and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
