DEXTER Keenan from Ayton, a pupil at Longridge Towers School, has won a place with the National Boys Choir of Scotland.

The choir boasts some of the finest treble voices in the country and Dexter gave his first performance with the choir in the recent Easter holidays.

At Longridge, music is an important part of the daily curriculum. Dexter who studies with Margaret Rowland is following in the footsteps of Lewys Ball, Berwick Rotary Club Musician of the Year who won a place in the choir in 2010.

The National Youth Choirs of Scotland perform all over the country and older members have the opportunity to sing in prestigious venues including The Sage Gateshead and The Royal Festival Hall and St John’s, Smith Square in London. They also make recordings, undertake foreign tours and perform newly commissioned pieces.

Many choir members go on to study singing and to become professional musicians.
