She’s Eyemouth born and bred and now Debra Martin is looking to get Berwickshire moving as part of her new role with the Borders Sports and Leisure Trust.

Debra is the Trust’s new area manager for Berwickshire and fresh from a two week break she is back in post and has just launched a series of exercise classes in Berwickshire.

The new programme, which kicked off on Tuesday with a special two for one introductory offer for the first week, features classes ranging from Metafit to Zumba and covers local communities from Cockburnspath to Coldstream.

Originally from Eyemouth, Debra studied Sports and Exercise Science at Napier University and has been working for the last four years as a Borders Sport & Leisure Active Schools coordinator for Kelso.

In her new role as area manger for Berwickshire, Debra will develop opportunities for sport and physical activities for people of all ages in the local community from pre-school children to adults.

“It’s great to come back to the area I grew up in,” she commented.

“Major sporting events such as the Olympics and Commonwealth Games are really putting the spotlight on sport and the range of ways people can be active.

“Borders Sport and Leisure is embracing this and we want to not only provide great swimming pools and gyms but also develop a whole variety of services for the Berwickshire area including play sessions, holiday programmes, exercise classes, support packages for local sports clubs, supporting talented young athletes and new opportunities for school age children.”

“We have such a strong team of people working within the area to create opportunities that will encourage and motivate the communities to enjoy a more active lifestyle and I am really excited about the future of Borders Sport and Leisure in Berwickshire”

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Borders Sport & Leisure added: “Debra is a really enthusiastic member of our team and I know she is looking forward to becoming involved in making sport and exercise as accessible and enjoyable as possible.”
