THE first spring salmon of the new season caught on the Tweed was hooked on the opening day by Norham angler David Foreman.

David was fishing at Hempseedford on the Junction Beat, aided by boatman Billy Jack, who netted and safely released the 8lbs hen fish.

The fresh springer was caught on a Hardy Angel rod with Marquis reel using the ‘Snaelda’ fly.

David was presented with the Tweedside Trophy by Tim Pilcher, from Tweedside Tackle, Kelso.

The trophy was sculpted by Borders artist Jason Sweeney.

David is the fifth angler to win this trophy which was commissined by Tweedside Takle in 2007.

David also received a certificate and fly line donated by Hardy.
