Dance teachers rewarded for their outstanding service

Two teachers at the Duns and District Branch of the Royakl Scottish Country Dance Society have been given awards for their outstanding service to Scottish Country Dancing.

At a recent social gathering of members Rhona Burchick and Pat Harrower were presented with the Branch Award by president Jimmy Mitchell.

Pat and Rhona have drawn up a syllabus of Scottish Country Dances suitable for use by teachers in Primary Schools. This has involved travelling to Edinburgh regularly for many months as part of a working group to take the project forward.

Pat and Rhona are teachers of country dancing in the Duns Branch. They have a vast experience of teaching both children and adults, in schools and in the community. They have spent much time and energy in their commitment to produce these Lesson Plans for Schools. This project will further, interest, participation and enjoyment for countless children. Not only have Rhona and Pat set out the lessons, but have arranged music for each part and are now involved in arranging workshops for teachers and in presenting this Resource Pack to schools.

Pat and Rhona are teaching dancing in two classes for the Branch. There are five adult classes and a children’s class. The classes are in Cockburnspath, Coldstream, Duns, Eyemouth and Paxton, if anyone is interested in taking up an enjoyable, active and social activity please phone secretary Ian on 01890750634.
