Border MPs Anne Marie Trevelyan and Calum Kerr met with trustees of the Union Chain Bridge on Wednesday, August 5 to discuss its long term future.

Plans for its full restoration, involving both Northumberland County Council and Scottish Borders Council in collaboration with the trustees, are already underway in readiness for the bridge’s bicentenary celebration which will come around in 2020.

The Bridge, built in 1820 and the first of its kind in the world, is considered a vital asset to communities on both sides of the River Tweed, as well as being a tourist attraction of international importance.
