Councils join forces to tackle dog fouling

Scottish Borders Council has teamed up with Midlothian Council to tackle dog fouling. A campaign across the two areas promotes responsible dog ownership. Owners are told to Bag it, Bin it and not leave their dog’s mess behind.

For those who see owners refusing to pick up after their pet, there’s also a clear message to report it. This can be done by contacting the local authority. Information is treated in confidence and the more details you can provide, the more likely it is we can assist and prosecute. For example, who is causing the problem, at what time and where.

Reports can be made to the council on 0300 100 1800/email dogfouling@scotborders.gov.uk.

Councillor Len Wyse, SBC’s Executive Member for Environmental Services said: “We continue to encourage all dog owners and walkers to take responsibility for their pets and to Bag it, Tie it and Bin it. The practice of leaving dog mess behind for others to tread in is unacceptable and we aim to continue to address this issue across the Borders, raise awareness and take necessary enforcement action against offenders caught.”
