Cottage designed to spot smugglers

Believed to have been originally built to catch smugglers, the aptly named ‘Old Coastguards Lookout’ at Cove is up for sale.

The cottage enjoys panoramic views of the sea and coastline and is being marketed by Smiths Gore for offers over £175,000.

Cove, has a history of smuggling and you can still see the tunnels carved through the rocks of the headland, which were allegedly forged to carry contraband from the coast through to the inland village of Cocksburnspath half a mile away.

This charming upside down house with slate roof has been converted from a coastguards observation post with dramatic birds-eye views of the coastline.

The house is being sold through Smiths Gore’s Berwick office.
