Community councillors sought

NOMINATIONS are being sought for Ayton Community Council.

There are 12 places available and the nomination period opened yesterday, Wednesday, July 4, with the deadline for applications being Wednesday, August 1.

Should less than six valid nominations be received a new community council cannot be declared and six months will have to pass before nominations can be called again.

If 6-12 valid nominations are received a new community council will be declared on 8 August and a meeting of the new council will be called.

If more than 12 nominations are received a ballot will take place.

Nomination forms are available from: Ayton Mini Mart; Returning Officer Clare Malster on 01835 826626 or cmalster@scotborders.gov.uk; Scottish Borders Council Headquarters, Newtown St Boswells, Melrose, TD6 0SA and www.scotborders.gov.uk/aytonelection.

Clare commented: “Community councils play an important part in village life and Ayton Community Council is no different. It has previously been involved in discussions with wind farm developers and public transport providers, representing the views of the community.”
