LANCE Corporal Katherine Casswell of the Duns Detachment of the Army Cadet Force has been selected as the new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet.

At a brief ceremony held in Duns last week, Lance Corporal Casswell was presented with her certificate by the Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire, Major Alexander Trotter.

Having been selected as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Berwickshire for 2011-12, Katherine’s duties will include assisting the Lord Lieutenant at official events including the forthcoming Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

Katherine is in fourth year at Earlston High School and hopes to study theatre arts at Telford College.

She recently auditioned for ‘Britain’s Got talent’ as a comedian and is eagerly awaiting the result.

Katherine, who lives in Oxton, said she was “very honoured” at being selected as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet and is looking forward to her duties throughout next year.

Katherine enjoys the Cadets to such an extent she introduced her father to the Battalion and he is now an instructor at the Detachment. Sergeant John Caswell is a busy self-employed electrician but thoroughly enjoys training local youth in his spare time.
