More than 20 Frank Wood watercolours from his great nephew’s personal collection are going under the hammer in the Anderson & Garland Fine Art and Antiques Sale in Newcastle next week.
Wood, who painted the German feet at Scapa Flow when it surrendered in 1918, lived and worked in the north east, Scotland and the southern English naval towns. He taught at art schools in Berwick, Hawick and Newcastle.
The watercolours for sale feature marine, battleship and landscapes painted in the 1930s and ’40s. They are part of the private collection of William Cowe of the Berwick grocery retail family which made the original Berwick Cockles sweets.
