Collecting unwanted electrical items

Scottish Borders Council and the charity Home Basics have teamed up to open the region’s first Reuse Cabin at Selkirk community recycling centre.

Households are being asked to donate unwanted electrical items to a new initiative aiming to help disadvantaged people in the Borders.

From Monday October 13, the cabin will accept donated electrical items that are in working condition. Home Basics will then collect them and put the items through a thorough quality check before they are made available to the most in need people in the region.

Home Basics business manager Dennis Fisher said: “It is a brilliant idea. It not only helps in need people in the Borders but will also have a positive environmental impact.

“I hope the people of the Borders will give generously to support this scheme. It is a great opportunity.”
