SportColdstream is planning its first Sportsfest on the weekend of May 16 and 17, in Home Park - an afternoon of athletics, games, taster sessions and fun for all ages.
Activities in Home Park will include athletics, junior football and bowling, while the community centre will host taster sessions in Tai Chi, kick boxing, archery etc.
SportColdstream is a joint initiative by seven sporting clubs and the community gym, and they have arranged for the main event on Saturday to be brought to a close with a motivational talk by Berwickshire’s paralympic champion Samantha Kinghorn.
Samantha is one of wheelchair racing’s, fastest rising stars. In her second season she was selected as a funded athlete by Team GB and is ranked number 1 in the UK within her disability class at all distances and has set numerous Scottish records. In 2013 she finished the season ranked number 1 under 18 athlete in the world within her disability class, and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio are very much on Samatha’s radar.
Samantha has been actively involved in delivery of coach and athlete education and development and actively encourages and recruits other young people into the sport. She also delivers motivational talks to injured ex-servicemen and to schools, and coupled with training 12 times a week it means that Samantha has a very full schedule.
