Cockburnspath win Berwickshire SWRI Federation bowling

Berwickshire Scottish Women’s Rural Institue members have been busy lately, with their annual bowls competition and AGM and prize giving.

After a close match on the green at Duns Bowling Club, Cockburnspath SWRI won, beating Oxton by 1 shot in the last end. (Pictured is Mary MacFarlane, federation chair presenting the winning Cockburnspath team with the Federation Green Bowling Trophy).

On a more sedate note, members from 17 Berwickshire institutes, representing over 500 members, were welcomed to Allanton Village Hall for their AGM by federation president, Linda Riddell.

Results for the Enid Elphinston Trophy competition for the Anne Wallace Sugar Sifter Trophy were: joint third place Chirnside and Coldstream, second place Lauder and first place was Paxton. Joan Purves MBE received the Enid Elphinston Trophy on behalf of Paxton SWRI from Federation chair, Mary MacFarlane.

Syllabus Competition resulted in 3rd Greenlaw, 2nd Oxton and 1st Leitholm.

Plans are now being made for the federation’s upcoming 90th birthday celebrations.
