Duns and District Parishes have taken a local lead in raising funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s East Africa food crisis appeal, and a Sunday soup lunch, coffee morning and private donations have raised £1,000. Drought and conflict have left 16 million people on the brink of starvation and in urgent need of food, water and medical treatment in South Sudan, Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia.

Duns minister Stephen Blakey, covering for the Rev Cole Maynard while he is in South Sudan, said: “It’s good for our churches here in Berwickshire to play a small part in supporting this vital work.”
