Coldstream Guides on a trip to London

At the end of last month a group of twenty Coldstream Guides enjoyed a visit to London during the unsually warm Indian summer the city enjoyed for a few days.

Leaving Coldstream at 6am and travelling by car, bus, two trains, two tubes and a bit of walking they arrived at Wembley Arena in time for the Big Gig - a pop concert for 11,500 girlguiding members.

The singers included Olly Murs, Pixie Lott, Eliza Doolittle, Alexis Jordan and The Wanted, and a very exciting and noisy time was had by all.

The next day they were up bright and early for breakfast on the Sunday morning and set out on some sightseeing in central London.

This included a trip to the Jubilee Bridge over the River Thames where the three oldest Coldstream Guides, Halcyon Hayward, Natasha Birkett and Emma MacEachen were presented with their Baden-Powell Challenge certificates and badges. The four youngest Guides Amy, Charlie, Gemma and Megan were proud to make their Guide Promise on the bridge over the middle of the Thames.

From there they walked back up to Trafalgar Square and basked in the sun enjoying the mini heatwave before getting the underground back to Kings Cross to catch the train home.

A great adventure.
