Professor Mike Dixon, one of the leading breast cancer surgeons at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, is calling on people across the Borders to take part in the Great Scottish Run to support Breakthrough Breast Cancer in Scotland.
He is looking for men and women to join his running team ‘Mike’s Marvels’, to complete the run with him and raise vital funds for Breakthrough’s life-saving work.
Mike is known to thousands of women across Scotland thanks to his many years of work at one of the largest breast cancer units in the UK. He ran the Great North Run for Breakthrough last year and has raised over £15,000 since then. He is hoping to build on this fantastic support by encouraging people to join him this year in raising money for Breakthrough.
Professor Dixon said: “As a breast cancer surgeon I am well aware of the devastating impact of the disease on thousands of women across the Borders. I know how vitally important new treatments are to ensure more women can survive breast cancer, which is why funding Breakthrough’s work is essential. I was overwhelmed by the support I received after my run last year, and hope that people will get involved this year.
“By joining my team you can help continue funding Scotland’s only dedicated breast cancer research unit. I would urge anyone who is interested in joining me on this challenge to sign up and help raise vital funds for our life-saving work. Together we can breakthrough breast cancer.”
