Local MSP John Lamont visited the habitat of a rare butterfly after becoming its ‘Species Champion.’ John has adopted the Northern Brown Argus which is mainly found in the Borders, but has been under threat due to the loss of unimproved grasslands, its main habitat.

He visited a site near Burnmouth with local enthusiasts and members of Butterfly Conservation Scotland, Barry and Barbara Prater to see the butterfly during its relatively short, two month flight period. John became Species Champion for the Northern Brown Argus as part of an initiative run by Scottish Environment LINK which has been encouraging politicians to champion a threatened species.
