Apprenticeships can offer a great next step no matter what your exam results, local MP Michael Moore said this week.

In the Borders, many young people choose apprenticeships and Mr Moore has been working with Borders College and local businesses in recent years to create more apprenticeship opportunities in the area.

Mr Moore said apprenticeships were ideal for hundreds of students expecting exam results next week.

He said: “Highers and university are not the ‘only way’.

“All young people should have an opportunity to get on in life and apprenticeships are a great way to ensure that.

“In the Borders many young people have embarked on successful careers which started with an apprenticeship.

“The schemes offer our young people the chance to learn and get valuable work experience.”

The biggest expansion in apprenticeships since the 1950s has seen 1.8m youngsters start schemes across the UK in the last four years.
