Sheep dog league holds open trials

THE Northumberland sheep dog league held an open trial at Falston show on Saturday when Kath Lyons from Rochester judged 31 dogs working swaledale sheep that needed determined work to put them in the pen.

Results were: 1. Archie Tait (Barrasford) with Dale 79/100 points, 2. Ian Jackson (Ancrum) with Kep 78, 3. Maralyn Iley (Longframlington) with Cap 77, 4. Paul Turnbull (Rothbury) with Dot 75, 5. Tony Iley (Longframlington) with Scout 72, 6. Dominic Naylor (Wooler) with Moss 70.

On Sunday the league held open trials at Kirknewton and Overacres. Pam Tapson from Yetholm judged 44 dogs at Kirknewton working Blackface sheep that needed carefull handling over a large flat course.

Results were: 1. Colin Balmbro (Wooler) with Scott 81/100 points, 2. Paul Turnbull (Rothbury) with Dot 80, 3. John Foster (Earlston) with Rock 80, 4. Bill Elliott (Yetholm) with Rod 78, 5. Emma Gray (Elsdon) with Spot 78, 6. David Baxter (Harbottle) with Don 77.
