Accommodation within a short drive of the East Lothian village of Gullane is attracting premium rates from spectators attending The Open Championship at Muirfield this summer.
It is no wonder then, faced with tariffs of as much as £10,000 per week, that key workers at the event began to look at alternatives.
Faced with working away from their homes and families for several weeks, over 50 contractors are delighted to have landed luxury lodge accommodation at Thurston Manor Leisure Park near Dunbar.
Just 20 miles from Muirfield, Thurston Manor, with its own stocked fishing loch, was once a country estate visited by Kings, and is now part of the boutique Verdant Leisure group attracting holidaymakers all year round. It offers modern stylish caravans and luxury lodges in a truly stunning country park setting.
The contractors will take up residence at the end of April and will stay until after the Championship at the end of July.
Commenting on the deal, Verdant Leisure marketing manager Stacey Gibson said: “Our bookings for this summer are already well ahead of target. Despite last year’s washout, quality leisure parks in prime locations are becoming more popular with holidaymakers. We are delighted to welcome workers at The Open Championship for their extended stay at Thurston Manor.
“The site is within easy reach of nearby Dunbar and less than half an hour’s drive to the Muirfield and we expect many more enquiries from spectators seeking excellent value for money accommodation in the coming months.”
