At their weekly primestock sale on Monday John Swan Ltd sold 79 clean cattle, 22 OTM cattle, 1,677 new season lambs and 698 ewes.
Bullocks (28) averaged 206.2p per kg and sold to 228p (-2.6p on week), heifers (51) averaged 208.5p per kg and sold to 233p (+2.2p on week) and 22 beef type OTM cattle averaged 123.6p per kg and sold to 158p (n/c on the week).
New season lambs averaged 1.73p per kg (+3p on the week) and sold to £90.50, top price 194p per kg for Texel.
Ewes averaged £58.73, and sold to £111 for Texel, heavy ewes averaged £75.89, Light ewes and averaged £47.86.

John Swan Ltd also held their annual Show and Sale of Texel Prime Lambs kindly sponsored by The Texel Sheep Society and expertly judged by Alistair McSporran of Scotbeef. The champion was awarded to Mr Ewan Pate, Craigsford Mains weighing 47kgs and realised £90.50 to M/s Findlay, reserve was awarded to M/s Runciman, Muircleugh which weighed 43kgs and realised £74.50.

At their weekly sale of primestock last Wednesday John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 1,796 lambs and 390 ewes.
More lambs on offer, more buyers present, resulting in all classes being dearer on the week and well above early week markets.

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 18 prime cattle, 16 over 30 month cattle, 3,223 prime lambs and 5,331 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale at Longtown last Thursday.
A small show of prime cattle due to the weather with averages less on the week but a poorer offering of quality which lead to the dip in price. The sale topped at 211.5p for a Limousin bullock shown by D.J. Garthwaite and Son, Wyseby Hill Cottage.
Less cast cows forward selling to a firm trade and topping at 137.5p for an Angus cow from J.F. and S.J. MacDonald, Ladyhousesteads.
A fantastic show of 3,223 prime lambs sold to an average of 173.3p per kilo on par with all other centres this week as many more lambs pour onto the market. Lightweight lambs continue to sell at recent high rates, also best export lambs easily sold. Top of 205p per kilo for Beltex from High Greenhill and Cheviots from Golden Lane and to £94 per head for Texels from Fingland.
Included in the sale was the prize show and sale of pens of 10 Suffolk Prime lambs kindly sponsored by the Suffolk Sheep Society The Northern Counties of England Branch. The judging was ably carried out by Mr Billy MacTaggart who awarded the following prizes: 1. JT Fleming and Son, Falnash, weighing 44kg selling at £80 to Dunbia; 2. K Lumbley, Newbiggin, weighing 43kg selling at £70 to MacTaggart Bros; 3. Messrs Rutherford, Bleatarn, weighing 40kg selling at £70 to Dunbia.
A larger show of 5,331 cast ewes and rams met a very similar trade on the week.
Border livestock Exchange
Last week Border Livestock Exchange Ltd sold August sold 196 prime cattle including 42 cows, 2,011 prime lambs, 267 cast ewes, 220 Suffolk cross gimmers and 84 store and breeding cattle.
Cattle trade has finally improved with registered Aberdeen Angus cross cattle heavily sought after.
Large numbers of Aberdeen Angus crosses sold to 380p per kg and to a top price of £1,520 per head. Suckler bred young bulls were also dearer reaching 350p per kg and £1,438 per head.
Cull cows again sold well with pure Charolais from Bowsden Moor, Berwick upon Tweed topping at £1,411.
Prime lambs were firmer with Texel cvrosses selling to 380p per kg from Cockburnspath.
Suffolk crosses also to 380p per kg from Longformacus.
Small light weight lambs sold to 380p per kg from Thompsons Walls, Wooler, for Cheviot Crosses.
Breeding cattle sold to £1,400 from in-calf regular aged Limousin cross cows due October.
Suffolk cross mule gimmers sold to £160 for 220 head.
