Mark Grieve from the Lafarge site at Dunbar is riding high after securing his Diploma in Quarry Technology from the Institute of Quarrying in Derby, following three years of hard study.
The Works both paid for the course and gave Mark, 35, time off to study for this NVQ level 4 qualification.
“It took around 10 to 12 hours of work each week to complete all the assignments,” said Mark. “But it was well worth it to end up with a qualification where I’ve learnt so much from both the theoretical and practical modules.”
Works manager Nigel Blair added: “It’s very rewarding to invest in our employees and see them put so much hard work in, as Mark has done.
“We are delighted with this outcome, which will help him in his aspirations to become a quarry manager.”
