A new draft masterplan for the next 20 years has been unveiled by Newcastle International Airport.
It is preparing for major expansion, with potential development including terminal extensions, additional aircraft and car parking, new access arrangements and the creation of more offices, hangars and warehouses.
The airport currently supports 7,800 jobs across the region, but by 2030 it is envisaged to rise to up to 10,000.
Last year, the airport delivered an estimated £646million to the regional economy and this too is expected to grow to £1.3billion over the next 20 years.
Also in 2012, it accommodated 4.4million passengers.
