The Greenlaw print and design company, Orwell and Goode, has returned from a prestigious international trade show with the award for best new product.
The show, called Top Drawer, has over 700 stands and is the UK’s leading design and lifestyle exhibition.
“It is the second time we’ve exhibited at the show,” said partner Bronagh O’Kane. “so we knew how high the standards are, and we are overjoyed to win with our foot stool.”
Zuzana Gibb and Bronagh formed Orwell and Goode in 2011, by merging their independent businesses.
Zuzana said: “We’ve been lucky to have help when we needed it. I started with a grant from PSYBT - part of The Prince’s Trust - and in 2011 we got help through Business Gateway.”
Now the company makes a range of hand printed furnishings and prints but it was a small foot stool that won the £1,000 prize.
Bronagh added: “It is a big boost for us, we’ve had a lot of interest, including from some of the major retailers. Buyers also seemed to like that we try to source everything locally, and that we are based in Scotland.”
Orwell and Goode already sells through its website, other online retailers and a number of shops, but would like to expand so that its local team of three part-time workers – including a recent graduate from Heriot-Watt University– can be kept even busier.
