Glamping is a growing trend

Earlston-based BSW Timber are offering farmers, leisure parks and landowners an easy and cost-effective route into luxury camping.

‘Glamping’ is a growing trend and earlier this year, Michael Flanagan and his family invested in the Borders firm’s Scots-Pods for their holiday park - Border Forest Park - in the Northumberland countryside. The decision has certainly paid off for Michael, who has already secured bookings for the Christmas and New Year period.

Michael said: “We have 36 caravans on site at Border Forest Park, but with a couple of extra pitches available my wife and daughter were really keen to try something new. We decided to trial just one Scots-Pod and the immediate success of that was enough to convince my son-in-law and I that the investment was worthwhile. We soon installed a second pod and we intend to have a third in place by spring time next year.

“The pods have really taken off. They’ve brought in more than £3,000 through new and repeat business in just six months, and we’ve already taken bookings for Christmas and New Year.

“Without exception, all of our guests have commented on how warm and comfortable the pods are and have said they will be returning to stay with us again in the future.”

A new introduction to BSW Timber’s Timeless Timber brand, each Scots-Pod is a high quality camping unit that provides year-round comfort and shelter from all weathers.

“Electrics are fully fitted and the pods are delivered as single units, ready to go from day one with no need for planning permission.

Beautifully crafted from home-grown Timeless Timber, the pod has outstanding sustainability credentials and blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings of the great outdoors.

The camping pods tap into the burgeoning ‘staycation’ trend of luxury camping, or ‘glamping’, and turn vacant or unprofitable land into a ready-made tourism business.
