Duns post office is moving across the market square to Nairn's newsagents

A proposal has been made to move Duns Post Office, creating a more modern, open-plan branch in Nairn News on the Market Square.

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move, in a six-week public consultation.

The new Post Office would have three serving positions, as part of a move to modernise the service. One would be screened, one open-plan and the other would be a Post Office serving point at the retail counter of the shop, which would be open for most Post Office transactions throughout shop opening hours.

Should the move go ahead, the branch would open from 9am-5.30pm with selected services available at the
combi-counter from 5am-5.30pm, Monday to Friday; 5am-7pm on Saturdays and 5am-1pm on Sundays.

This would mean 84 hours and 30 minutes more service than are currently offered.

Post Office Regional Network Manager for Scotland and North England, Suzanne Richardson, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Duns and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

She added: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The current Government has committed £1.34bn for the Post Office network to make sure there is no programme of Post Office closures and to update branches. In November it announced a further £640m investment in the Post Office network, from 2015 to 2018.
