Fuel retailers in the Borders are among the 1,500 in 35 counties across Britain and Northern Ireland being consulted about fuel prices.

And Borders MP Michael Moore is urging them to take part in the UK Government’s call for evidence as they look to extend the island fuel rebate scheme, enabling retailers to claim back five pence per litre on petrol and diesel.

Mr Moore said: “High fuel prices are a major concern for local people here in the Borders.”

To qualify, prices in October, November, December 2012, would have to be equal to or higher than: 144p, 138p and 139p for unleaded fuel; and 148.5p, 148p and 145.5p for diesel.
