Yetholm ecohome is built in a trice

YETHOLM is home to the first eco house built to be wind and watertight within just three days last month.

Berwickshire architect Keith Renton designed the home for a private client and explained: “The sustainable low energy home was largely prefabricated off site and craned into position.

“It is the first house construction of its type to be built in the Borders, if not Scotland.

“The panels are full wall length and come with the windows installed, render on the walls and plasterboard on the inside.”

The floors and roof also came as panels, and six weeks later, the house was at the same stage as the house next door (which Mr Renton also designed), which took over four months to reach.

The sustainable timber-based home is airtight with high levels of insulation, meaning it does not need a central heating system, but will be heated by a ventilation system, topped up with a wood burning stove.
