A major search was launched yesterday afternoon for a missing 73 year old male fisherman on the river Tweed.
The Police called for first the assistance of the Fire Brigades, Swift Water Rescue teams from Berwick and Lothian and Borders, then the help of Berwick RNLI lifeboat to search the River Tweed. Some RNLI crew members also assisted in searching both sides of the river banks with the Police and Fire Brigade. A SAR Helicopter was also in attendance from RAF Boulmer.
Unfortunately the man’s body was later recovered two miles above Norham Chain Bridge, on the English side of the river; Police have now launched an investigation.
