Blackadder Bridge on the Mount Pleasant to Duns Road stretch of the A6112 will be closed for eight weeks, from Monday, March 3.
Masonry repair and refurbishment works need to be done to the bridge and while Scottish Borders Council anticipate that it will take around eight weeks, the closure period will not be fully known until the scaffolding goes up and the full extent of the accident damage has been established.
The deteriorating masonry spandrel wall on the downstream side of the bridge will be taken down and strengthened, and repairs done to the long standing accident damage.
Temporary traffic controls will be in place to allow for the erection of the scaffolding starting next week, Monday, February 24, and diversions will be in place once the bridge is closed.
The council appreciates that it will result in significant inconvenience and apologises in advance but requests public co-operation during the closure period.
