BIG lottery grant information day in the Borders

THERE have been a number of recent local successes when it comes to Lottery funding applications - the Safer Communities Team’s £767,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Becoming a Survivor Fund, and the Flodden 500’s first installment of a £9000,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund - and the potential is there for more successful bids from the region.

There have been some new BIG Lottery funds introduced for 2012, and together with other recently launched funds over the last few years, the Big Lottery Fund has organised a programme of events to provide information on the range of programmes available in Scotland.

As well as providing an overview of the programmes available in Scotland, these half day events will give delegates an opportunity for brief signposting sessions with BIG staff and the chance to speak to other support/funding organisations including Scottish Borders Council, LEADER, Berwickshire Association of Voluntary Service and the Social Enterprise Chamber.

The next event in the Scottish Borders is at the Volunteer Hall, Galashiels on Thursday, April 19. Any individual or organisation who has plans that could be helped on their way if a lottery grant was to come there way, is encouraged to go along to one of the two half day sessions being held there to find out whether their project fits the criteria for any of the new Lottery categories and also for advice on how to go about applying. The first session is 10am-12.30pm, then after a break for lunch the afternoon session stgart at 1.30pm and finishes at 4pm.

As well as representatives from the Big Lottery, organisers also hope to have representatives there from Youth Borders and the Borders Sports and Leisure Trust.

In the first eight years of the National Lottery the Scottish Borders local authority area attracted £17.06 million of funding (£166 per head of population). So why not find out if this time - it could be you!
