BIG Event for Borders in May

THERE will be a strong Berwickshire representation at a Borders-wide event being staged in Galashiels next month.

The BIG (Borders Interactive Gathering) event will be held in the town’s Volunteer Hall on Thursday, May 19, from 12 noon to 6pm and all are welcome.

The event is a resource for the many charities and support groups to give information on their work, from courses, to services helping people to access learning - or just improve the quality of life. In the Borders that can mean community transport, support for those with difficulties or feeling excluded, or training opportunities for carers and many others.

Over 30 exhibitors will be in attendance at the annual event which showcases a huge range of opportunities for all adults in the Borders.

Among those setting out their stall on the day are Borders College, NHS Borders, BAAGS and Scottish Borders Elder Voice and the aim of the event is is to promote learning, leisure and living opportunities to anyone over the age of 16.

People who go along to the Volunteer Hall can find out ways to further their education; volunteer to help others and learn new skills and hobbies.

The event will also celebrate the work done by adult learners throughout the region.
