AYTON ENHANCEMENT GROUP COFFEE MORNING AND PLANT SALE

Ayton Enhancement Group held their second coffee morning and sale of high quality perennial plants in Ayton Community Hall on April 27.

The enthusiastic support of local people and the success of the morning’s activities suggest that this could become a “perennial” event which all gardeners in the surrounding area might want to note in their diaries.

The group was formed in February 2011 following a public meeting organised by Ayton Community Council; its remit being to work towards the improvement of Ayton village by means of floral displays and other appropriate means which brought them success in the 2011 Scottish Borders Floral Gateway competition, when they came second in the small villages section.

The Enhancement Group has so far: provided planted tubs and troughs along the High Street for summer displays; planted crocus bulbs at the village’s southern entrance with the aid of pupils from Ayton Primary School; created a new flower bed on the High Street at the Old Town; weeded pavements at both ends of the village; planted tulip bulbs and pansies in the High Street tubs.
