The audience at Duns Opera’s cowboy musical Oklahoma was stunned and delighted on Saturday night when lead actor Ben Foreman closed the show by proposing on stage to his leading lady and real-life girlfriend, Marie Tucker.

Ben, who played Curly McLean in the show, completed his final thank-you speech by going down on one knee and popping the question to Marie, who said yes.

“We all had tears in our eyes. It was so romantic,” said one of the 100-plus witnesses to the plucky proposal.

As Curly, Ben had just proposed in the final act of the show to farm girl Laurey, played by Marie.

Ben, who has an HNC in Acting & Performance, has a long-standing acting career with DDAOS and Duns Players, as well as theatre groups in Edinburgh.

Duns and District Amateur Operatic Society would like to take this opportunity to wish Ben and Marie, two very accomplished actors, the very best for a long and happy future together.
