The main guest at Duns Rotary Club’s meeting was Alexandria Vincent from USA, a Rotary Global Grant Scholar who is spending a year in Scotland, studying for a Masters degree in Inclusive and Special Education.

Alexandria gave a fascinating talk of her involvement in many levels of Rotary in the USA. She is sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Antonia, Florida, and is hosted in UK by the Rotary Club of Portobello.

As part of her time in Scotland, Alexandria has worked as mentor at the RYLA camp at the Abernethy Trust’s Outdoor and Adventure Centre at Ardeonaig where she got to know Erin Lauder and Rebecca Lyons (pictured above with Alexandria) who have been sponsored by Duns Rotary Club to attend this year’s event. The girls were thrilled to meet up again with Alexandria and to receive their RYLA attendance certificates.

Other guests were Doug Redpath and Ann Lindsay of Duns Summer Festival who discussed plans for the forthcoming Ceilidh on Saturday, September 26 at Aitken-Walker’s stables. Profits will be split equally between Duns Summer Festival, Duns Pipe Band and Cancer Research. Tickets on sale this weekend from Nairns.
