Every year Scottish Borders Council’s Education and Lifelong Learning Department hosts a ceremony to celebrate the achievements of staff who have committed time and energy to their own professional development.

Councillor George Turnbull, executive member for education, and Glenn Rodger, director of education and lifelong learning, recently took the opportunity to recognise the achievements of over 70 staff from across the council who had received professional accredited awards in the previous 12 months.

Teachers, community learning and development workers, librarians and others were welcomed to the 2011 Achievers Awards and thanked for their hard work and commitment in successfully undertaking and completing programmes to enhance their professional practice.

Councillor Turnbull, the council’s executive member for education, stated: “It takes dedication and commitment to study for qualifications whilst also working and maintaining family life.

“I should therefore like to congratulate and thank all of the staff who have been given awards today in recognition of the efforts they have made to their ongoing professional development.”
