The crowning was performed by the outgoing Gala Queen Maggie Oliver.

Cockburnspath Gala day is always a popular event in the village’s busy calendar. Saturday’s events got underway with the gala procession around the village, with Eyemouth and Berwick Pipe Band in support.

The procession was followed by the crowning ceremony. The Royal Party is: Gala Queen - Abigail Aitchison; Standard Bearer - Lewis Hardie; P7 Queen’s attendants - Kayla Craig, Isla-May Edge, Lauryn Simpson and Erin Watson; P7 Usher - Cameron Phillips; P1 Flower girls - Faith Ainslie, Matilda Burgess, Alise Crosby and Amira Mansour; P1 Page boys - Taylor Donnell, Callum Fletcher, Kane Grant, Oliver Piniarski and Kai Ross.

TGuest of honours at this year’s crowning was Mrs Judy Morrison who retires this year after providing 24 years of care and support for children at Cockburnspath Primary School. She will be missed by everyone for her kindness and patience as she has helped those around her grow and learn.

Gala day is a great opportunity to bring the community together and to have fun. There was all sorts of entertainment for the kids including bouncy castles, an assault course, banana boats, a magic show and even a teddy catapult!

Alternatively, many paid a visit to the ‘make-over’ tent for face painting, hair colour spraying and glitter tattoos.

For the ‘big’ boys and girls there were Harley Davidson bikes to drool over, and of course a well-stocked bar.

Great music for all ages was provided by Dunbar Sings in the hall while many took advantage of the teas a and some delicious home baking.
