In the aftermath of last week’s floods caused by Storm Desmond, there were more traffic problems on the Berwickshire stretch of the A1 caused by high winds in the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, December 9.

Police Scotland confirmed that they received a call around 3.40pm on Wednesday 9 December, after two large lorries had blown over due to the high winds.

One of the heavy goods vehicles had been travelling northbound on its side on the southbound carriageway near Burnmouth. The other lorry was “fully on a verge on the southbound carriageway near Lamberton”.

The A1 was closed to all vehicles in both directions between Burnmouth and Lamberton at around 4pm and re-opened around 9.50pm. Wind also blew down a tree causing traffic problems near Orange Lane.
