Newsnight Scotland’s audience on the Union Chain Bridge, that unites England and Scotland across the River Tweed, has spoken and over 60 per cent of them voted for Scottish independence earlier this week.

Presenter Kirsty Wark hosted an independence debate at the side of the bridge on Tuesday afternoon, which was screened later that evening. The 50 audience members, which included people from across Berwickshire and the Borders, returned to the bridge as the programme was broadcast and then towards the end they were asked to walk onto the bridge and put their vote into either a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ vote, 32 voting yes and 18 voting no.
