Five substantial community awards of £1,000 each will be offered during the remainder of 2013 by the Lafarge Tarmac cement plant in Dunbar, as part of the celebrations to mark its 50th year of operation.

Human resources officer Laura Davies said any local community groups or good causes were invited to apply for the awards to fund projects that would benefit the local area or the people living and working in it.

“We support community projects every year but have decided to offer some substantial ‘pots’ in 2013 as it’s a landmark year for us,” she said.

Anyone with a cause – whether a project to stimulate the local economy or improve facilities for local people – can apply and have their bid considered on its merits against the other applications.

Smaller awards or supplies of materials for more modest projects are also available. Just call the site on 01368 861263 and ask for an application form.
