BERWICKSHIRE’S coastal communities are being encouraged to apply for their share of the £4 million Coastal Communities Fund before the deadline of April 27.
A pre-application form for the 2012-13 financial year is now available on the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) web site.
The purpose of the fund, which is made up of 50 per cent of the revenues raised per year by the Crown Estate’s marine activities, is to promote the economic development of coastal communities and it will be used to support a wide range of projects, including those that involve charities, the environment, education and health.
Urging communities to apply, Borders MP Michael Moore said: “The Coastal Communities Fund is a fantastic resource which ensures that 50% of the Crown Estates offshore projects are ploughed back into coastal communities. Here in the Borders our communities have a rich history and diverse economies but as a rural and coastal area we also face many unique challenges and opportunities.
“This fund is dedicated to promoting economic development in precisely these types of communities so I want to encourage organisations in the Borders to tap into this resource and ensure we benefit from the boost this funding would bring to our local area.”
