The Scottish Government’s handling of the Borders Railway project has been criticised in an Audit Scotland report.
The scrutiny body comments that for the Borders Railway project “Transport Scotland did not ensure that business cases were complete and up-to-date at all stages. Consequently, at certain decision points, it had not fully demonstrated the viability, value for money and affordability of the project.”
Scottish Liberal Democrat South of Scotland MSP Jim Hume wants to see Audit Scotland’s recommendations accepted fully by Transport Scotland. He said: “This report shows that delays and rising costs to the Borders rail project are a mess of the government’s own making. For too long people in the Borders have been granted a patchy picture of plans for the Borders rail project. I am pleased that Audit Scotland has supported our calls.”
