Wooler Young Farmers Club were celebrating in February 1990 after being awarded the Malcolm Anderson Cup in recognition of their work protecting trees and hedgerows.

The prize was part of Tree Week, and saw certificates and a trophy presented to Marjory Stewart and John Wilson, as Wooler won the cup for the third successive year.

An area of land at West Newsham, near Belsay, was identified as benefitting from being planted up, and Marjory’s and John’s plan was deemed the best.
