Choir needs singers to to mark Flodden anniversary

LOCAL singers are being invited to raise their voices for the important occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden in the summer.

The Choir of Local Voices is a special choir for a one-off concert, whose membership will be drawn from amateur choirs and church choirs on both sides of the border.

And the offer to join in is also being extended to people who don’t yet belong to a choir.

About 60 people have signed up so far and rehearsals will begin next Sunday, March 3. Each rehearsal will take place at Coldstream Parish Church will the dates as follows: March 3, 10, 17 and 24; April 14, 21 and 28; May 5, 12, 19, 36 and 31.

The programme for the concert is likely to include ‘Make Me a Channel of Your Peace’; either the Schubert or the Goodall version of Psalm 23; Rutter’s ‘Out of the Deep Have I Called unto You (Psalm 130); Mendelssohn’s ‘Hear My Prayer’ and Faure’s Requiem.

As a cross-border group, the Choir of Local Voices will bring different communities together to commemorate a tragic event from 500 years ago, in a way that promotes reconciliation and unity rather than division.

Anyone interested in joining up should contact Marion Dodd on (01896) 822446 or Rob Kelsey on (01289) 382325.

Alternatively, singers can go along to the first rehearsal next Sunday.
