Traditional Chinese Junk
Traditional Chinese Junk

Visitors to Eyemouth in February 2005 might have been excused for rubbing their eyes as they saw the majestic Keying II sail into the harbour.

The Chinese Ha Kau fishing trawler, better known in the West as a traditional Chinese junk, was on the Berwickshire coast to take part in the TV documentary, The Lost Fleet of the Kublai Khan.

The documentary told the story of the Mongol lord’s ill-fated attempt to invade Japan in the 14th century, which was thwarted when his fleet of junks was destroyed by a sudden typhoon.
