Duns Castle Nature Reserve hosted Chris Packham, of the BBC’s Really Wild Show, in October 1989.

He was attending the first Scottish National WATCH Members’ Day organised by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, along with his pet tarantula, Ron.

Chris was attending in his role as vice-president of WATCH, the national club for young people. According to the News’ report: “With his bleached punk hair style and designer clothes, Chris shattered the image of the woolly-haired naturalist, and was extremely popular with the children.”
