The mystery cat-like creature seen around Greenlaw Moor in August 1990 was identified as a leopard cat shortly after it was found dead by local men Melvyn Chisholm and Jimmy Dishington.

The frozen body of the animal was subsequently delivered to the Royal Museum of Scotland.

Zoology expert Andrew Kitchener said he thought it was a leopard cat, of a type found in southern Asia, which had either escaped from captivity or else been left to fend for itself in the wild.
