Marchmont House restoration project

An ambitious project to restore Marchmont House to its former glory got under way in 1989, sparking off great enthusiasm in the area.

The 12 acre site became run down when the estate ran into financial trouble, but when the house itself underwent a £1.25 million facelift, it was hoped that it would soon have gardens to match.

Volunteers from TOC H, mainly from Duns and Selkirk, have been working on the grounds on Saturday afternoons and local schoolchildren have chipped in on Sundays.
